Frequently Asked Questions
Location, Location, Location
Pineapple Place is located on the southern shores of Maui's sunny side in the laid back beach town of Kihei. Click here to be directed to a map with our geographic location.
Are you in a good building?
Yes! Our condo is a walk out unit in Building 7, located in the coveted inner courtyard of the Kamaole Sands Resort. We are in the center of it all! Easy walking distances to the beach, the resort's pools, spas, exercise room, activities desks, tennis courts and front desk. Click here to be directed to the Kamaole Sands Resort property map.
Do I need to rent a car on Maui?
Our recommendation is yes, so that you can enjoy Maui's offerings to the fullest. Click here for our car rental tips. That being said, some guests do not rent a car and stay local to the resort during their stay. There are options for hiring a car for a special meal out or for airport pickup and dropoff, and even mass transit. Click here for our around island transportation tips. There are also restaurants, lounges, and convenience stores within walking distance. Plus online services to order and deliver groceries. Click here for a link to nearby Supermarkets and Online Grocery Services.
Are there Resort or Parking Fees?
There is a Resort Fee, but it is unlike the daily fee many large resorts charge. It is a one-time fee (per 30 day stay). The current fee $35 (plus tax) and is due at check in. The resort fee provides the following amenities: Free Internet Service, 24-Hour Security, Pool Attendants, Daily Newspaper for pickup at the pool, Maui Magazine for pick up at front desk, Free Basic Cable, Cyber Cafe, 24-Hour Front Desk, Lending Library and the ever loved and enjoyed Wednesday Mai Tai party with live music.
There are no daily parking fees! During your stay, the resort front desk staff will assign you our private parking space.
The amount of the Resort fee or amenities can change at any time, without owner's consent.
Are there restaurants nearby?
Be sure to bring your appetite! Not only do you have access to the freshest of fish, but the infusion of cultures make eating on Maui something special. When we are back home, not only do we find ourselves dreaming of our favorite beaches but our favorite Maui foods. Many of our favorites are located within less than a 15 minute walking distance. Click here to see nearby eateries and lounges.
How do I get more detailed info about the operation of your condo for my stay?
Approximately two weeks before your arrival we will send an email with a link to your Arrival, Stay and Departure Instructions. This same email will also contain your private door code.
We need another unit for family. Do you know other owners?
Maybe our unit is already reserved for your dates. Or maybe you are traveling with a larger group and need a couple units. Below are links to other units:
Looking for another unit at Kamaole Sands? Consider Kamaole Sands 6-103, a lovely one bedroom, two bath, ground floor unit located in building six in the inner courtyard. This unit is owned by Gary's sister and brother-in-law. Let them know Keren and Gary sent you!
HomeyHawaii is a Hawaii vacation rental listing and online booking management website designed and built for owners and by owners. It's goal is to provide a listing service, alternative to AirBnB, VRBO, HomeAway and other large listing channels. You won't find added traveler fees at Homey Hawaii, which can be a real savings!
What beaches are nearby?
There are so many great beaches on Maui's south side that we do hope you get out to explore and enjoy. Plus we share beach gear to make it simple for you to enjoy beach days. You can never go wrong enjoying evening sunsets and a play day or two at Kamaole Beach III, directly across from the resort. It is after all a favorite of locals. Though to truly enjoy Maui is to experience it's beaches. To help you venture out, we have compiled a list of our favorite beaches. Click here to see our favorite south Maui beaches.
We share the following beach gear:
- two beach towels;
- two beach chairs;
- one beach umbrella;
- one ice chest;
- kids sands toys;
- one boogie board;
- A beach wagon to easily take the gear to the beach!
We keep these items in a share closet and often the share closet will include snorkel gear left by previous guests. We don't share snorkel gear because there are just too many sizes of face masks and fins to accommodate all guests. Though, if needed, we can recommend a source for renting excellent snorkel gear.
Do you offer any discounts?
We pride ourselves is providing an affordable accommodation option on Maui and therefore have just one standing discount program. Our Ohana Guest Discount is for those who have previously stayed and reserve their next stay within 90 days of their last departure. The Ohana Guest Discount is 5% off the nightly rate.
Once in a while we will run a seasonal discount rate. Click here to check for any seasonal discounts.
Can I get a Late check-out?
We often have back-to-back guests and therefore the best way to ensure a late check out is to request it at the time of reservation. We do have a Late Check-Out Fee of one half the nightly rate because we will not be able to rent our condo the following night if you do not check out at 11:00 a.m. due to not being able to ensure our next guest can check-in by our posted Check-In time of 3:00 p.m.
Are there any departure tasks I will need to complete?
Unlike a hotel when you rent directly from an owner, just as if borrowing a friend's home, there are a few light tasks we ask our guests to complete at departure. These tasks are as follows:
- Launder and re-store borrowed beach towels as they unfortunately are not part of housekeeping services;
- Start in the washer with either bed sheets or bath and kitchen towels (housekeeping will finish);
- Borrowed beach gear from the pantry or lanai “borrow closet” shall be brushed off or rinsed of sand/salt water and neatly re-stored for next guest. If rinsed, ensure gear has proper time to dry before re-storing to avoid mold in humid climate. Unfortunately housekeeping services do not apply to the share closet.
- From the refrigerator, cabinets and countertops, remove the following items to the garbage room:
- Leftover food containers
- Remove food from washable storage containers
- Throw away opened and perishable food and beverages
- Load dirty dishes into dishwasher, add dishwasher detergent and start; housekeeping will put the clean dishes away.
- Sweep/vacuum excessive sand brought into the unit via beach towels, clothing, shoes, beach toys etc.
Of course Housekeeping will take care of all detailed cleaning and sanitizing of the unit for the next guest. We also ask you to turn off all electrical devices (e.g. lights, TVS, A/Cs, etc) to save precious resources. Ensure remotes are returned all devices. Return Share closet keys to their proper spot. Close all windows and lock all doors.
Under most conditions, Maui beaches are a safe place to play; though, you do have to bring with you common sense and a true assessment of your own ocean abilities. Also understand that the world's beaches vary by location and you can't rely on your experience at one beach to be the same at another beach. The same even holds true even from one day to then next when on beaches throughout Maui. The ocean conditions vary based on weather, time of year and the ocean swells. If in doubt, don't go out! We have been going to Maui for 25+ years and we always heed this reminder. For years we have lived by the tips on rip currents, waves, sharks provided in Maui County's Ocean Safety Guide. The guide also maps beaches with lifeguards ... of course the very best is right across the street from Kamaole Sands. Below is a link:
